TOP GOODS FROM THE GLOBE
When I graduated from high school, I was on a plane the next day to move to Mexico. 2 years later I was living in South Korea. 2 years after that, I lived in Australia. 5 years later I shacked up in the French Alps, directly moving from Bristol, England. Design and craft varies greatly from place to place, speaking a universal language that all eyes can understand. I discovered my first Beni Ourain in a Souk in Agadir, Morocco in 2013. I did not know that these rugs were a big thing in western design – but I gently pulled it out from the many rug hangers and told the shop owner how much I loved it. He said it was Beni Ourain. That meant nothing then, but so much now. Knowing the women who weave them in their Berber homes in rustic mountain settings is something of great connection. I buy these rugs knowing the exact face that wove it, and which cooperative she’s from. It feels great to support these women and support a craft that is traditions old.
I’ve collected so many trinkets and textiles from around the world, and have supported artisans from Australia all the way to Nunavut. It’s what keeps me connected wholly to each and everyone of us. The world has a lot of beautiful design. Here are my top favourites from around the globe.
