The way I describe one of the most prolific designers of today; a woman named Patricia Urquiola – is if you are lucky enough to have one or more of her furniture pieces, you can call your home a partial modern art museum.
Today – I wanted to do a quick post on one my favourite furniture/ industrial designers. This spring weather has me thinking of her stunning outside furniture pieces. Especially the swinging chair done in collaboration with Louis Vuitton on sale for $38,000. Whew!!!! Ok, a little pricy, but hey ho – how naturally beautiful is this?
If you’ve travelled in places like Barcelona, Milan, or London, you’ve most likely run into her furniture designs in a restaurant, or hotel, maybe even in a museum. If you are familiar with her — you will know when you see her work — she’s got a distinctive look that mixes eclectic with soft edges, and comfortable curves with beauty. Her undeniable talents are that of mixing color blocking using the span from triad to monochromatic schemes, to simplifying solid textiles in bold colors upholstered perfectly around sofas. She also adds gradients once in a while for kicks too. She pulls even further and collaborates (with top international furniture companies) to build useful products – not just good lookin’. Either way you look at her products — there’s proof that she’s talented because she has produced over 1000 designs in her career, and is still going strong….how does she have time to breathe, I wonder?

These chairs are how I first came to know of her. I saw them in a cafe in Barcelona in 2012, and had to find out who designed them. This is the photo I took of them!

If you want to see more, visit her website, or explore the web.
With everything we see – with everything we touch, we should be inspired in our homes, if you can have a Patricia piece, you should. It is a work of art, and an heirloom, forever beheld in time.
On that note, I hope you have a good day everyone!
